#GetItChecked Campaign 2022

Our big message for 2022? It’s still Get It Checked

In 2021, we launched our #GetItChecked campaign to encourage people with any niggling symptoms to make an appointment with their doctor. We wanted to show our support to people who were delaying appointments due to Covid, and to NHS staff, who were calling for people to come forward and be seen.

Fast forward to 2022, and guess what? We’re gonna keep shouting about it, because it’s just as important now as it was last year. Towards the end of last year, Macmillan estimated that there could be a backlog of 47,300 people in the UK who had not yet been diagnosed with some type of cancer, because of Covid.

With World Cancer Day approaching on the 4th of February, join us and spread the word: if something doesn’t feel right for you, or for someone you know, call the doctor today and get it checked.

Covid and cancer

Cancer Research UK estimated that during the Covid-19 pandemic three million fewer people in the UK accessed cancer screening, partly due to clinics having to close for several months in 2020.

Many patients on waiting lists had their vital cancer treatments and surgeries postponed, some without knowing when a new date might become available. If you’ve been affected by delays in cancer appointments due to the pandemic, know that the We Get It community is behind you and here to offer moral support, coffee, cake and friendship. We run Get Togethers, events and workshops, and there’s all sorts of useful info and resources on our website

Unfortunately, Covid is still with us – and so is cancer. If you have any new or unusual symptoms, in any part of your body, pick up the phone today. Appointment waiting times are longer in some places, but you must be persistent about getting seen. If it’s nothing, you’ll have your mind put to rest. But if it’s something that needs treatment, you’ll be so glad you didn’t put it off.

That call could save a life…
