Founder and chair of trustees

Laura Phillips

I started We Get It because I wanted to make sure no one is alone during or after cancer treatment. Everything you see, hear and attend is created by the We Get It team. They give up their time, energy and passion, because we all believe in living your life with or without cancer. We want to show people we get it and grow our cancer community in Bath.

Lizzie Heffer

With 20 years’ experience in marketing and business development, my expertise in profile raising, brand development, digital development and event management, alongside contacts in the professional services and charity sectors, mean that I’m well placed to work alongside We Get It to increase its profile and enable its growth and success.

Patron & Press officer

Bob Crampton

The role of Patron came along and I snapped it up. It’s a privilege to represent such an amazing group of people who put to one side their own cancer plight to help others with the disease. My other role is Press Officer – helping to get the message out there using all forms of the media.

It’s hard to put into words how proud Rednine are to be able to offer creative support to We Get It. Watching this cancer support group grow so successfully in such a short period of time. Which has to be attributed to the determination of this incredibly generous team driven by the inimitable force that is Laura Phillips – someone I’m so proud to call a dear friend.

Treasurer & Finance Director

Jo Bridger

As a nutritionist, my biggest passion is food, but I also really love numbers. I’m using my accounting skills to keep us on track financially, making sure we can provide as much help as possible to anyone affected by cancer.

Wellbeing & Get-Together Lead

Sue Judge

I lead our Wellbeing programme, including the We Get It meet-ups every Friday at Cafe Walcot. I’m a registered Nutritional Therapist and wellbeing coach and I’m currently training to become a Living Well Facilitator with Penny Brohn. In the future, I hope to start a volunteer buddy system to support those affected by cancer by those that get it, so watch this space.

Having volunteered for We Get It for four years, I became its first employee in April 2023, taking up the role of Charity Manager, I bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and skills from corporate roles and through volunteering for cancer charities. I manage the charity on a daily basis - my role is wide-ranging, from managing our social media and digital marketing, to event management and promotion, as well as working with our community members, volunteers, trustees, charity partners and corporate sponsors to drive the growth of We Get It.

Awareness Promotion

Rob Lay

I’ve experienced at first hand just what tremendous emotional and practical support We Get It provides to people with cancer and to their family and friends. I’m delighted to be able to utilise my project management and negotiation skills, plus my experience from previous involvement with a number of other local charity groups, to focus on further raising awareness of We Get It.

Awareness Promotion

Lesley Lay

From the very first We Get It meeting I attended when I was newly diagnosed, I knew I wanted to be a part of this amazing group and to give back what it had given me – friendship, love and support. I worked for over 20 years in Occupational Health promoting health and wellbeing. I now feel privileged to have the opportunity to be able to promote and raise awareness of We Get It.

Kate Banks

I am an experienced HR professional who has worked for nearly 30 years in the private sector, including retail, technology and financial services. I’ve worked at a Director level managing HR functions, creating and driving people strategies and building inclusive and engaging work cultures. I discovered We Get It when I was going through treatment for breast cancer in 2021 and I experienced first-hand the amazing practical and emotional support they provide for cancer sufferers and their loved ones. I found a community of like-minded people who quite simply do what it says on the tin i.e., they get it!

Thankfully, I am now in remission, and I’m keen to do what I can to support the fight against cancer. I am part of the “Women of Influencing Programme” for CRUK as well as being the Chair of the Business Beats Cancer Board for Bristol, which is another CRUK initiative. I’m honoured to be a Trustee for WGI which is my way of paying forward the help and support they gave me. The charity is really growing and going from strength to strength with many ambitious plans for the future. I’m excited to be part of this and to see what we can achieve.

I first met Laura when I was invited to the launch of We Get It.

I was 'volunteered' to sit on a panel with others to be questioned about my own experience with cancer by the audience who had attended. It was an amazing evening and a wonderful energy in the room.

I was so impressed by Laura's passion, drive and commitment to provide an alternative and supportive community for individuals dealing with cancer.

When she asked me to be a trustee I didn't even have to be asked twice.
