get it checked

The We Get It team is shouting the message as loudly as ever in 2024 and we need your help.

Get it checked in 2024!

Almost 3 million people were seen for urgent cancer checks in the year from Nov 2022 to Oct 2023, the highest year on record. Up by 147,960 on the same period last year.

And yet, 42% of cases were diagnosed at the more advanced stage 3 or 4 in the year to September 2023.

The Institute for Cancer Research continues to stress that when cancer is caught at an early stage, treatment is often more effective and the chances of successful recover much higher.

The #GetItChecked message is as important as ever in 2024!

NO ONE knows your body like you do, so if something DOESN’T FEEL RIGHT for you, or for someone you know, call the doctor today and

GET.
IT.
CHECKED.

World Cancer Day - a day where as a community we commit to reducing the impact of cancer on ourselves, and the people we love; to speak up, stand up and take action against cancer.

It is also a day to celebrate the wins, the advances, the ones who aren’t with us and those who are 🖤

In 2024 we are urging you, AS LOUDLY AS EVER, to get any niggling symptoms checked out.

We know that people are apprehensive to visit their GP surgery during this time. Taking the small step to speak to your doctor could SAVE YOUR LIFE. It really is that important and yet that simple.

Don’t delay.

Act today.

Early diagnosis is key!

If you have any new or unusual symptoms, in any part of your body, pick up the phone today. Appointment waiting times are longer in some places, but you must be persistent about getting seen. If it’s nothing, you’ll have your mind put at rest. But if it’s something that needs treatment, you’ll be so glad you didn’t put it off.

That call could save a life… ☎️

We can’t shout it loudly enough.

#GETITCHECKED

What is World Cancer Day?

We actually asked ourselves this question........The World Cancer Day message is #iamandiwill with the focus on committing to reducing the impact of cancer for yourself, the people you love, and your community; to speak up, stand up and take action against cancer.

At We Get It HQ we decided we needed to most definitely to speak up about the cancer crisis that we have witnessed within our cancer community as a result of the pandemic.

To stand up for our cancer community giving them a voice and platform as well as support and community.

The We Get It team leaped to take action in 2021 and launched our first campaign - #getitchecked – to shout loudly that the NHS is open and that, if there is anything worrying you about your health – if something doesn’t feel right, for you – GET IT CHECKED.

We know that people are apprehensive to visit their GP surgery during this time. Taking the small step to speak to your doctor could save your life. It really is that important and yet that simple.

Don’t delay. Act today. Get it checked.

COVID IS A KILLER. CANCER IS TOO. GET IT CHECKED. Today & every day.

World Cancer Day 4th February 2021 - We believe that individuals, together can create change. Join us today, speak up, stand up and take action.

Anthony Head

We are kicking off our campaign with the support of actor & musician Anthony Head. Thank you kindly Anthony.

Anthony’s most famous role was perhaps as Rupert Giles in Buffy The Vampire Slayer who was described as having a genius level intellect...let’s take this as a sign - be smart, get it checked.

Don’t have any doubts about your health. It’s not (rocket) science. Actually it is. Early diagnosis is critical and could save your life.

#GETITCHECKED

Covid is a Killer.

Cancer is too

The message from NHS England is loud and clear – it is open for business.

At We Get It, we have launched our latest campaign - #getitchecked – to raise awareness that the NHS door is open and that, if there is anything worrying you about your body – if something doesn’t feel right – GET IT CHECKED.

We know that people are naturally apprehensive to visit their GP surgery during this time. But the NHS has taken precautions to create a COVID-secure environment, wherever possible.

Taking the small step to speak to your doctor could save your life.

Don’t delay. Act today. Get it checked.

WHAT’S THE RUSH?

With Covid causing chaos in our hospitals, many people have chosen not to see their doctor to report new symptoms that could be an indication of cancer. So, we are urging anyone who reads this – if something’s not quite right, book that appointment today.

  • A recent report by Macmillan estimates that due to Covid, there have been approximately 50,000 missed cancer diagnosis, and 650,000 people having their cancer treatment disrupted with GP referrals bring down a staggering 75%.

  • Cancer Research UK (CRUK) estimated that due to the postponement of routine NHS care during the pandemic about 12,750 fewer cancer patients had had surgery, 6,000 fewer had received chemotherapy, and 2,800 fewer had had radiotherapy.

  • NHS England has launched a campaign urging people with symptoms of any potentially serious illness to seek help in the normal way by visiting their GP, A&E, or dialling 999 in an emergency.

TIME TO GET IT CHECKED

Don’t ignore the signs.

That lump that has just appeared, the weight that dropped off without dieting, the ache in your leg that won’t go away, the bloating without eating, the unusual fatigue, or the poo that looks really different… Don’t ignore the signs.

The NHS is dealing with a lot at the moment, but it is still open and here to help you. Early diagnosis and treatment is key for all types of cancer. We know it’s scary out there right now, but it’s simple: if you don’t feel right, it’s time to get it checked.

Let’s help more people survive cancer and live longer. If you or someone you know is putting off that appointment for another time, please get the message out today:

Watch BBC Panorama (Britain‘s Cancer Crisis) as Deborah James investigates fears that the coronavirus pandemic has caused a crisis in cancer care that could mean many thousands more will die.
