A BIG WIN, a new campaign and a bright future!

WOW…what an amazing first quarter of the year it’s been for our small but mighty charity!

Lizzie and I were gobsmacked when it was announced that We Get It had won the ‘Charity of the Year’ award at the recent Bath Life Awards evening. This huge win for the charity topped off an amazing evening and I think you will see our surprise and delight at the win in the photos below!

I am really proud that we have won this competitive, coveted award in just three and a half years of being a registered charity. The best thing about the win is, of course, that it will help more people hear about We Get Its support and be inspired by how our cancer community continue to live well with and beyond cancer.

The number of people meeting up at our weekly Get Togethers has continued to grow in 2024. If you have been thinking about joining us (or know someone who has) please, please do so. We appreciate it might feel hard walking through the door, but you’ll be glad you did. Our community members are so welcoming and it’s a relief to be understood and know you’re not alone. Plus the coffee’s on us!

We rely on feedback from our community members to guide how we use our funds and resources. Our first Visual Journalling event last year was super popular so we held it again in February/March. Our members also enjoyed a second evening of laughter at Komedia Comedy Club in Bath recently. It’s really important to us to listen to you and hold events that help you to live well with and beyond cancer.

No doubt our community growth is a result of the growth in We Get It’s profile over the last year, but it just shows how important our support is.

Did you know that 5,300 people are diagnosed with cancer each year in the Bath area alone?* Cancer survival has doubled in the last 50 years in the UK too, so the amount of local people needing non-medical support to deal with cancer continues to grow.

The We Get It team is acutely aware of this growth and more committed than ever to helping local people dealing with cancer.

I’m really excited about the future for We Get It. As our profile and community grow, we’re going nowhere and our hardworking team continues to build on new ideas and events for the rest of 2024.  This includes a new, exciting campaign. This campaign has been five months in the making. It will be really powerful in sharing our members’ stories and inspiring others to make use of our support. Be sure to keep an eye out for that!

Lastly, HUGE thanks go to our team and community members. Everything We Get It does is only possible because of you.

Much love

Laura
